Chin Surgery Can Balance Facial Features
Procedures such as chin augmentation or genioplasty can enhance the appearance of your chin. These procedures are best for the patient whose chin is small in relation to other facial features.
At Lowe Plastic Surgery, we perform chin surgery at our Oklahoma City plastic surgery office for men and women who would like to improve this important facial feature.
When to Undergo Chin Surgery in Oklahoma City
Chin surgery may be recommended if:
- The chin is small, a condition called microgenia
- It can enhance the results of rhinoplasty
Chin surgery with Dr. Lowe is a great option for people interested in improving the harmony and balance of their facial features. With a chin implant, or sliding genioplasty, the doctor can enhance a weak chin and provide a more pleasing facial profile and balance.
FAQ
How does chin surgery work?
Chin surgery treats a recessed chin by altering the chin’s appearance or bone structure. Chin implants are placed above the bone through an incision under the chin or in the mouth.
Sliding genioplasty surgery alters the jaw bone itself to correct the chin’s appearance. In sliding genioplasty, a section of the jaw is removed, then moved forward and attached with screws. Both procedures are performed in order to improve the facial profile or the overall harmony of facial features.
What happens after chin surgery?
After chin surgery, you may experience bruising, swelling, and temporary loss of sensation. You will need to follow your doctor’s instructions on the care of any external incisions. You may also wish to take steps to reduce scars. If you have non-dissolvable stitches, you will have a follow-up visit to have them removed. You will not be able to return to rigorous activities for several weeks after surgery.
What are the risks of chin surgery?
Risks of chin surgery include but are not limited to over-projection of the chin, under-projection of the chin, infection, and asymmetry.
Where is chin surgery performed?

After chin surgery, you can recover at the surgery center, in the surgical ward at Integris Baptist Medical Center, or at any number of other overnight medical facilities.
